Managing Our Environmental Impact

Although Kelly’s primary focus is connecting people with meaningful work, we recognize the environmental impacts of our business and are committed to minimizing our carbon footprint.

Environmental considerations are integrated into our enterprise risk management process to address both client expectations and evolving regulatory requirements for carbon accounting and climate risk.

Climate-Related Risk Oversight

Kelly evaluates environmental and climate-related factors within the Company’s enterprise risk management framework. This includes physical risks, such as extreme weather events that could affect employees, talent, clients, or service delivery, as well as transition risks associated with evolving regulations, client sustainability priorities, and market expectations. In 2025, Kelly completed a climate-related financial risk assessment aligned with the TCFD recommendations, with oversight integrated into existing governance and oversight processes.

Repurposing Resources

Through Community Partnership

Kelly partnered with United Way to support the responsible removal and redistribution of office assets during a workplace transition. Across three floors, furniture, equipment, and materials were diverted from disposal and provided to community organizations for reuse.

This initiative reduced waste while extending the lifecycle of valuable resources, supporting organizations with limited access to essential workplace materials.

By collaborating with community partners, Kelly advances practical, circular solutions that minimize environmental impact and create meaningful local benefit.

Greenhouse Gas Emissions and Reduction Targets

Kelly operates from leased office spaces and reports Scope 1, Scope 2, and material Scope 3 emissions in accordance with the operational control approach defined by the GHG Protocol. While Kelly originally established a 2021 emissions baseline, a comprehensive greenhouse gas inventory completed in 2024 enabled a more complete and accurate assessment of the company’s emissions footprint across all scopes. As a result, 2024 has been established as the revised baseline year for Scope 1, Scope 2, and Scope 3 emissions and related reduction targets.

Certain international offices, including locations in Europe, APAC, and other regions where Kelly does not have operational control, are excluded from the Scope 1 and Scope 2 inventory. Where relevant, emissions associated with these locations are included within Scope 3 categories (e.g., business travel and employee commuting), depending on data availability.

2025 GHG Emissions (tCO₂e)

Scope 1 and 2 Emissions

Scope 1 emissions include natural gas use in offices and mobile fuel consumption from two company-owned vehicles. Natural gas data is collected from utility invoices where available; for offices without invoices, a square footage–based proxy is applied. Vehicle fuel use is calculated based on odometer readings and DEFRA 2025 emission factors.

Scope 2 emissions Include electricity consumption at offices and IT equipment in colocation facilities. Office electricity is calculated using utility invoices where available, or region-specific intensity proxies where invoices are unavailable. IT equipment at two data centers in the United States is supplied with 100% renewable energy via VPPAs and Green-e® certified RECs, resulting in zero market-based Scope 2 emissions for these assets. Location-based emissions reflect grid averages.

In 2025, Scope 1 and Scope 2 location-based emissions increased 3.4% compared to the 2024 baseline. This reflects operational and facility-related changes during the reporting period. Kelly continues to implement emissions reduction initiatives in support of its long-term reduction targets.

Scope 3 Emissions

Scope 3 emissions include indirect emissions from purchased goods and services, business travel, employee commuting, and other upstream activities. Emissions are calculated using spend-based, distance-based, and average-data approaches with EPA and DEFRA emission factors. The 2024 greenhouse gas inventory expanded Scope 3 category coverage to improve completeness and accuracy, including upstream leased assets, transportation, and fuel- and energy-related activities. This comprehensive assessment informed the establishment of the revised 2024 baseline across all emissions scopes. Methodology remained consistent in 2025 to ensure year-over-year comparability.

In 2025, Scope 3 emissions decreased 35.8% compared to the 2024 baseline. As this represents the first reporting cycle against the revised baseline and expanded inventory boundary, emissions data and category coverage may continue to evolve as methodologies and data quality mature.

Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) Validation

Kelly’s company-wide GHG emissions reduction targets have been validated by the Science Based Targets initiative. These near-term, science-based targets will guide emissions reduction efforts across the enterprise:

Scope 1 and 2: 58.8% absolute reduction by 2034 (from a 2024 base year)

*2024 has been established as the revised baseline year for Scope 1, Scope 2, and Scope 3 emissions following a comprehensive greenhouse gas inventory conducted in 2024, which expanded emissions coverage and improved methodological completeness compared to the prior 2021 baseline.

Water Consumption

Kelly’s global offices maintain a low water footprint, with usage primarily supporting employee needs. A 2021 water risk assessment confirmed that most facilities are in low water-stress areas. At our headquarters, we have implemented water-saving measures, including smart-sensor, low-flow faucets and toilets, and efficient irrigation systems for landscaping, further reducing consumption.

Waste Management

Our facilities generate waste primarily from daily office activities, and we collaborate with local landlords to ensure effective waste management. We focus on proper separation, recycling, and responsible handling of IT equipment and office materials to reduce environmental impact.

2025 Highlights:

Paper Recycling: 5.84 metric tons shredded and recycled, saving 155 trees and approximately 12,339 gallons of water.
E-Waste Recycling: 8,586 pounds (3.9 metric tons) of hardware were recycled in the United States, diverting this material from landfills.
Remarketing: 1,979 units of hardware remarketed, extending product life and reducing waste.
Environmental Impact: E-waste recycling and remarketing efforts avoided 213,324 kg CO₂e emissions.

MethodologyOur greenhouse gas inventory follows the GHG Protocol Corporate Accounting and Reporting Standard. Activity data includes utility invoices, green energy certificates, and mileage records. Emissions factors are sourced from regionally appropriate datasets, including DEFRA, EPA eGRID, the U.S. Energy Information Administration, and Environment and Climate Change Canada, as applicable. Scope 2 emissions are calculated using both location-based and market-based methods. Scope 3 emissions are calculated using spend-, distance-, and average-data approaches to capture indirect emissions across the value chain.Scope 1:Natural gas consumption is based on utility data where available, or estimated using square footage proxies. Where applicable, natural gas use for heating is assumed to be zero in warm-climate offices without furnaces. Vehicle emissions are calculated using odometer data and DEFRA 2025 emission factors for petrol vehicles.Scope 2:Electricity consumption is based on utility data where available, or estimated using square footage and regional intensity factors. In 2024, Scope 3 coverage was expanded and the baseline restated to improve completeness and enhance year-over-year consistency. Methodologies and data quality continue to evolve as reporting matures.

Restoring Forest Resilience in Michigan

Through a partnership with the Arbor Day Foundation, Kelly is supporting reforestation efforts in Hiawatha National Forest. Much of the forest’s red pine canopy, originally planted during the Civilian Conservation Corps era, has reached over-maturity and requires restoration to maintain long-term ecosystem health.

The project will plant a diverse mix of red and jack pine trees, strengthening forest resilience and restoring critical habitat for the Kirtland’s warbler, a species removed from the United States Endangered Species List in 2019. The restoration also supports watershed protection across the Great Lakes region by reducing erosion and improving ecological stability.

Through this initiative, Kelly contributes to science-based forest management practices that enhance biodiversity, ecosystem durability, and long-term environmental stewardship.

Protecting Working Lands and Strengthening
Food Systems

Through a donation to The Conservation Fund, Kelly is helping advance the Working Farms Fund, which protects at-risk farmland and enables farmers to provide fresh, nutritious food to local communities.

Since inception, the fund has safeguarded over 1,600 acres, supported 35 farm businesses, and facilitated the distribution of more than one million pounds of food. Kelly’s contribution helps the Chicago Metro Farms program acquire and activate farmland for food production while providing training and technical assistance to emerging farm operators. In 2026, the program anticipates protecting 235 additional acres across four farms, supporting up to eight farm businesses.

This investment strengthens sustainable agriculture, conserves working lands, and enhances resilient local food systems.

Our Approach

We strive to create work environments where people feel safe, supported, and empowered to perform at their best. Our approach emphasizes regulatory compliance, continuous improvement, and proactive risk management, supported by Safety, Health, and Environmental (SHE) systems aligned with internationally recognized standards.

Our Global Safety, Health, and Environmental (SHE) team, comprised of internal subject matter experts, works collaboratively with employees, talent, customers, industry peers, and government agencies to identify, mitigate, and prevent occupational hazards. We actively participate in professional and industry organizations, including the American Staffing Association (ASA) Safety Subcommittee, the American Society of Safety Professionals, and the American Industrial Hygiene Association, to remain informed on emerging risks, regulatory developments, and leading workplace safety practices.

In 2023, Kelly formalized its global SHE management system and began enhancing technology within our internal risk management platform. Successfully launched in 2024, this system enables more consistent incident reporting, improved data quality, and enhanced tracking of impactful safety indicators. These data-driven insights support targeted preventative actions, helping reduce the risk of injuries and illnesses for Kelly talent assigned to customer worksites.

We actively collaborate closely with industry peers and government agencies to promote a culture of health and safety excellence. Our Global SHE team participates in Kelly’s internal Risk, Opportunity, Vetting, and Enablement (ROVE) committee, integrating health and safety considerations into business decisions and ensuring we connect people to work opportunities where they feel safe and secure.

Kelly’s Global Safety and Health policy reflects our commitment to providing a safe and healthy working environment for all employees. This policy is outlined in our Employee Handbook and communicated to new hires during onboarding and orientation. We promote shared accountability among managers, employees, and customers to understand, lead, and uphold our safety standards.

Our Absolute Zero program, led by the Global Safety, Health, and Environmental team, reinforces this commitment by providing a comprehensive framework focused on preventing occupational injuries and illnesses. The program emphasizes proactive hazard identification, risk assessment, and mitigation, while leveraging safety performance data to drive continuous improvement. Absolute Zero goes beyond regulatory compliance by monitoring impact metrics and striving toward zero on-the-job accidents, injuries, and illnesses.

Customers

Kelly’s commitment to health and safety extends to our customers and the environments where our talent is placed. Through our Global Safety and Health Program, we partner with customers to promote safe work practices and foster strong safety cultures at their worksites. The program includes ongoing training, engagement, and communication for talent assigned to customer worksites.

Our team includes a Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), who serves as a technical resource for customers and talent. We engage customers through pre-assignment risk assessments of their work environments, worker training, and incident trend analysis to evaluate and strengthen safety performance. Safety evaluations are conducted prior to service initiation, with ongoing monitoring through established performance metrics to support continuous improvement.

Health and Safety Metrics

In 2025, Kelly outperformed staffing industry peers by 93% for Total Recordable Incident Rate (TRIR) compared to the 2024 Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) industry average. We also recorded zero Days Away, Restricted, or Transfer (DART) cases.*

Kelly is honored to have been recognized for safety performance by a premier client for over 29 years.
In 2025, the Industry Business Roundtable (IBR) awarded Kelly a Safety Excellence Award in the Large Technical Support Gold category.
Kelly Canada received the Certificate of Recognition (COR) from the Government of Alberta in 2025, recognizing health and safety programs that meet established standards.
